The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Is-haq loyede, a professor, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday. Between Friday, 19 and 29 April, more than 1.9 million candidates took the computer-based examination to rank candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.   118 inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, after a downpour on Wednesday night, April 24, caused extensive damage to the facility. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the spokesperson, Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, on Thursday, April 25. Puza noted that the downpour caused severe damage to the custodial centre's infrastructure, including a breach in the perimeter fence, which allowed the inmates to flee. In response, the NCOS swiftly activated its recapturing protocols, collaborating with other security agencies to recover 10 of the escaped inmates.   The Lagos State Government Environmental Sanitation has arrested 26 suspected miscreants, including a Lebanese national, for squatting under pedestrian bridges. The state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, April 18, 2024, said the 26 miscreants were arrested by officials under the bridge at Law School, Victoria Island, Ozumba Mbadiwe and under the bridge around Muri Okunola. Wahab further disclosed that 82 individuals were apprehended at Onipanu, Ladipo, Ile Epo, and Oshodi for not using the pedestrian bridge.   The national grid has been fully restored hours after it partially collapsed and plunged some parts of the country into darkness, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said. “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces the full restoration of the national grid following a fire incident at the Afam Power Generating Station, which caused a partial disturbance of the nation’s grid,” TCN’s GM of Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah said in a Monday statement. She said the fire incident started early Monday morning at the Afam V 330kV bus bar coupler, leading to the tripping of units at Afam III and Afam VI. “This resulted in a sudden generation loss of 25MW and 305MW respectively, destabilizing the grid and causing a partial collapse,” the TCN official said. Coroner inquest attributes Late Sylvester Oromoni's death to parental negligence, clears five students accused of contributing to his death

  The Coroner, Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri, inquiring into the cause of death of the late student of Dowen College, Lagos, Sylvester Oromani, today April 15 ruled that the 12-year-old died & natural death In a judgment that lasted over six hours, the coroner attributed the death of the deceased to an avoidable case of parental and medical negligence. The Coroner held that Oromoni d'ed of sepsis emanating from infection of the lungs and kidney caused by an ankle injury. "The deceased's death was an avoidable one but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3, they didn't take him to the hospital until the day he died on November 30, 2021. The deceased went through an avoidable and excruciating pain and made to suffer needlessly," the Coroner said Magistrate Kadiri absolved some students of Dowen college named in the incident as he concluded that they played no part in the death of Sylvester, and should not have been involved in the matter. BREAKING NEWS : Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Hits 33.20% As Naira Rebounds

  Nigeria’s headline inflation rate reached 33.2 percent in March 2024. This represents a 1.5 percentage points year-on-year (YoY) increase from 31.7 percent recorded in February 2024. The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, disclosed this today, Monday, in its Consumer Price Indices report for March 2024. The bureau also said that food inflation increased YoY by 2.09 percentage points to 40.01 percent in March from 37.92 percent in February. NBS said: “In March 2024, the headline inflation rate increased to 33.2 percent relative to the February 2024 headline inflation rate which was 31.7 percent. “Looking at the movement, the March 2024 headline inflation rate showed an increase of 1.5 percentage points when compared to the February 2024 headline inflation rate. “On a YoY basis, the headline inflation rate was 11.16 percentage points higher compared to the rate recorded in March 2023, which was 22.04 percent. “This shows that the headline inflation rate (YoY basis) increased in the mo
