9 Killed On Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Accident


 

At least nine persons died on Tuesday while seven others sustained injuries in an accident along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.


Our correspondent gathered that the accident occurred around 8:am, involving a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere bridge along the highway.


The Spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday.


Okpe said it was caused by speeding and route violation which led to a head-on collision between the truck without registration number and the bus marked SMK 808 YD.


She said 17 persons were involved comprising seven men, nine women and one female child.


“A total of seven persons were injured which comprised five women, one man and one female child.


“Unfortunately nine persons were recorded dead from the crash which comprised five men and four women,” she said.


Okpe stated that the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ijaiye while the corpses were deposited at the same hospital in Abeokuta.


She quoted the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, to have cautioned motorists on route violation and excessive speed, pointing out the dangers associated with the two critical offences.
