The owner of DStv and Gotv, has been forced to revert to its old subscription prices following a court order. According to Politics Nigeria Multi Choice who had previously increased its prices, but the court ruled that the hike was un justified. According to reports, the company has lost over a million subscribers in Nigeria due to the price increase. The price hike was implemented to align with market realities following high inflation in Nigeria and the naira's devaluation. Nollywood actress, Stella Ikwuegbu is dead

  Veteran Nollywood actress Stella Ikwuegbu is dead. This was made known on Sunday by movie producer, Stanley Nwoko otherwise known as Stanley Ontop via his Instagram page. He revealed that the actress passed away today, Sunday, June 16th, after battling with leg cancer. Nwoko wrote: “Nollywood actress and veteran Mrs Stella Ikwuegbu is dead. The veteran actress left this world today after battling with leg cancer. Rest well, Madam Stella. Nollywood again. It’s well.” The late actress began her career in 1990, appearing in numerous films such as ‘Spoiler,’ ‘Ukwa,’ ‘Sound of Love,’ ‘Holy Man,’ ‘Two Hearts,’ ‘Heart of Stone,’ and ‘Madam Koikoi,’ among others. Hailing from Enugu, she was not only an actress but also a businesswoman. A graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu State, she launched her restaurant, ‘The Film Bar,’ on August 1. The actress’ death comes barely five days after veteran Yoruba actor Dayo Adewunmi, aka Sule Suebebe, died at 68.

  The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has said the federal government has banned lodging of underage girls in hotels in the country. She spoke in Abuja on Saturday, during the graduation and grant ceremony of participants of the ‘Unlock training programme’ organised by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, Madam Abiola Arogundade. The minister said the ban would take effect on June 20, 2024. Uju also warned hospitals against rejecting emergency cases they can handle, stressing that government was determined to address the issues. Falana, who disclosed this in a press release on Sunday, June 2, noted that the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 has expired. He said: "Pursuant to the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 the national minimum wage was fixed at N30,000. By virtue of section 3 (4) of the Act 2019 the national minimum wage expires after five years, and it shall be reviewed in line with the provisions of this Act. "Since the commencement date of the Act was the 18th day of April 2019, the national minimum wage of N30,000 has since expired. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has joined the ongoing strike embarked up from Monday, June 3, by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC. Organized labour started the industrial action following the federal government's failure to meet the unions' minimum wage demand. In a statement addressed to the branch chairpersons and zonal coordinators of ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, directed lecturers in universities across the country to join the strike as an affiliate of the congress.   Nigerian lady killed by a metro bus in the U.S A Nigerian lady identified as Damilola Matuluko, has died after she was hit by a metro bus in downtown Houston on Friday morning, May 31. According to ABC News, the tragic incident happened near Rusk and Smith just before 7:40 am and was the bus driver's fault. According to the METRO Police Department, Damilola who is a city worker, was in the crosswalk at the intersection and had the right of way when the accident happened. Investigations showed that the light turned green, and the bus turned onto Rusk, fatally hitting the deceased. METRO said the bus was operated by First Transit and that the contract driver was cooperating with investigators. There were reportedly two passengers on the bus, but no other in juries were reported. Breaking news: Workers shut Nigerian ports.

  In compliance with the nationwide strike action declared by the Organised Labour, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has shut down ports operations across the country. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) had on Friday directed workers to embark on the industrial action to demand increased minimum wage and reversal of recently increased electricity tarrifs. An official of the Union told journalists on Monday that all port formations in Port harcourt, Warri, Onne, Calabar and others have been shut down. The union leader who did not want to be named, added that the ports would remain closed until officers are instructed otherwise by the labour leaders.
